Friday Florals: Impromptu Shoot

On Monday after a finishing up a styled shoot for NZ Bride and Groom Magazine, we still had these flowers left over and looking vibrant so we decided to do a bit of an impromptu styled shoot of a table set up to showcase these gorgeous blooms.

The central table arrangement was crafted with King Protea - white and pink, Paeonies (alternate spelling peony) in pink, Ruscus in red, dried Lavender and Sea Holly which is part of the Thistle family but a little more on the purple side. The amazing purple balls you see lying on a bed of evergreen are Allium and as well as looking so novel with their bright purple blossoms and spherical form, are actually part of the onion family (often referred to as 'flowering onion') and are entirely edible, best used chopped up into salads and such with a flavour like that of spring onion.

The favour boxes you see on the table in the glass box are custom made by Harlow Garland's bespoke department, Bespoke by HG which is coming soon!

Harlow Garland, as well as being New Zealand's premier wedding planners and stylists, are also curators of wedding floral decor through our specialist florals department, HGBlooms.

We love the way that flowers add such an air of opulence to any event and how just the mere addition of blooms can lift any venue to a higher standard.

We can create all manner of beautiful florals, from bouquets and hair crowns, boutonnieres and corsages, to floral installations, centrepieces and other floral decor.

Whatever your wish, we can create it.

We believe that flowers should be more accessible and thus we don't charge astronomical construction rates, we don't import any international blooms and only use what is in season and readily available at the time of your wedding or event, enabling us to create fresh, seasonal arrangements, lovingly hand-crafted by our own professional and highly-skilled stylists.

Every detail is considered and crafted to the highest quality standard to create your dream floral vision in the lushest, most beautiful blooms and accoutrements.

Harlow Garland Featured in Bride and Groom Magazine

We are beyond ecstatic to finally be able to share with you the gorgeous 4 page spread of our Industrial Winter styled shoot as featured in the latest issue of NZ Bride and Groom Magazine!

We've been keeping it under wraps the last few weeks and we're positively bursting with excitement now that it's finally here.

One of our images also made the contents page for a close-up gorgeous early intro to the shoot.

We wanted to take the time to again thank our amazing suppliers:

The Pretty Prop Shop, Vinka Design, Kate Little Photography, Meagan Rawlings Makeup Artist, Robyn Munro from Inspired Hair, Alannah Hill, Munns, Ponsonby Central, The Great Hiring Company, The Studio of Tableware, Create + Curate Design Studio and our gorgeous, wonderful models for being a part of this incredibly fun shoot!

Our vision truly came to life through Kate's lens and we are so overjoyed to have it feature so prominently in NZ Bride and Groom Magazine.

Allow us to bring your dream wedding vision to life!

Behind the Scenes: Industrial Winter Styled Shoot

This shoot was by far our favourite yet and also our busiest. As well as sourcing the elements, we also created some ourselves, like the candelabra and votives made from copper pipe fittings, the floral arrangements, the hinge placemarkers and the handpainted favour cakes.

We had a truly wonderful assortment of vendors for this shoot who were an absolutely pleasure to work with!

Kate Little Photography was our first photographer with Flynn Gough acting as second shooter on film, digital and Polaroid.

Robyn Munro from Inspired Hair twirled up a storm of follicle fabulousness on our models while Meagan Rawlings perfected the palette of our model canvases.

The incredible gowns were once again supplied by Vinka Design- the absolute best in bridal couture. The suits were sourced from Munns (Lavinia at Botany Munns is your go-to girl for all things suits!) while the bridesmaid attire was sourced from Alannah Hill in Newmarket - garments, we're STILL getting compliments on from those involved.

We sourced the chairs from The Great Hiring Co, the gold cutlery and festoon lights from The Pretty Prop Shop, those incredible dinner plates and angular champagne flutes from The Studio of Tableware and the rest we sourced or created ourselves.

Behind the Scenes: Country Rustic Shoot

To commemmorate our expansion into Australia, we jetted off to Sydney to shoot an advertorial styled shoot using all local vendors and models (except Vinka Design, whose gowns we shipped over).

It was up (dark) and early on the morning of our shoot to ensure we were set up and ready to go before 7:30am.  Gledswood was hosting a wedding the same day so we needed to set up, shoot and be out of there before 9am without a trace!

Greeting our hair, makeup and models was done by torchlight, as was the bulk of the set up so it was pretty satisfying to see the sun come up and everything actually looking correct for having been assembled in the dark.

Gledswood is a beautiful venue and really had so many wonderful areas to shoot - we wish we had longer to shoot more of the fantastic grounds but we managed to cover the bulk of the venue.

Gledswood and the Sydney Riding School share the same grounds and so we were lucky to be able to borrow a horse, Winston, for to really complement our Country Rustic theme.

To commemorate our expansion into Australia, we travelled to Sydney to shoot a styled shoot with the theme of Country Rustic.

We found the perfect venue in Gledswood Homestead and at around 2:00am before the sun was anywhere near preparing to rise, we began work in the total darkness of the venue grounds to set up for an early morning shoot.
