Introducing: "Ask Rhonnie"

While Harlow Garland has been around for a number of years, we're yet to give you a proper introduction, so what better time than today as we launch our new segment!

My name is Rhonnie Snelgar and I am the owner of Harlow Garland Weddings and Events.

I wanted to start this segment because I know what it's like to plan a wedding and having planned hundreds over the years, I've had a number of questions from brides – both my clients and DIY brides who have contacted me directly for advice because they just needed a little guidance and knowing that so many of you willl have similar questions, a podcast community seemed a great way to give you all a place to ask questions anonymously and get the answers you're seeking.

This segment will provide you with tips and tricks, answers to any questions you have whether they're about choosing suppliers, dealing with an overbearing mother in law or anything in between. It's about learning and supporting and giving you a truly accessible knowledge base to help you in your planning.

Harlow Garland is the premier boutique wedding planning and styling company in New Zealand. Harlow Garland is inspired by the elegance and beauty of a bygone era and garnered its name from two of old Hollywood's most revered icons – Jean Harlow and Judy Garland who emitted the kind of radiance and effortless grace that every bride aspires to.

Unofficially, I've been personally planning and styling weddings and events for the past 15 years but Harlow Garland was officially incorporated in 2013 and since then has expanded to include additional planners, stylists, a dedicated wedding florist and our lovely assistants. Since then, we've received a lot of really positive press and features in publications like Magnolia Rouge, Bride and Groom and recently, on The Lane.com.

It takes roughly 200-250 hours to plan a wedding, add another 12 hours or so for the day itself and even more if you're doing it alone because there are the added time restraints involved in making your own favours, doing the decorating yourself, cleaning up, assembling bouquets, picking up props or attire and the like.

I'm not here to sales pitch, we have our sales information on the site and if your question is about the costs involved in planning and such I will include it but more so this segment is about supporting you in your journey and a number of you will be planning to go it alone – New Zealand is a DIY state after all so the focus is on just giving you free advice from my 16+ years in the business and helping you to solve some of the trickier aspects of wedding planning.

In order for this whole thing to work, I need to hear from you! I need you to ask those burning questions you want answered – so if you go to www.harlowgarland.com/askrhonnie, you'll see a recording widget and all you need to do is find a quiet place, hit record and ask away, it'll automatically submit your recorded question to me when you're finished and then from there I'll answer it as best I can. If you'd rather just email us your question, just click the button under the widget to do so. We'll either answer your question directly or turn it into a blog post like we've done for a few of our other write-ins.

I'm not the be all and end all of wedding planning knowledge but I know what you're going through and I do have a good frame of reference from my vast experience in the industry to provide you some advice and support.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and I hope you'll come back again and again to join in the community and get some resolution to all of your wedding planning questions and qualms.

We've also released a small range of one-of-a-kind race day fascinators through our Etsy store just in time for the New Zealand Herald Boxing Day Races and the famous Fashions in the Field competition. We'll be adding more styles regularly and we also take custom orders for the perfect accoutrement to your race-day ensemble!

We are so excited to be able to offer you these additional services and lend your wedding and event planning that extra tier of personalisation, elegance, ease and opulence that Harlow Garland has become synonymous with.

Behind the Scenes: Industrial Winter Styled Shoot

This shoot was by far our favourite yet and also our busiest. As well as sourcing the elements, we also created some ourselves, like the candelabra and votives made from copper pipe fittings, the floral arrangements, the hinge placemarkers and the handpainted favour cakes.

We had a truly wonderful assortment of vendors for this shoot who were an absolutely pleasure to work with!

Kate Little Photography was our first photographer with Flynn Gough acting as second shooter on film, digital and Polaroid.

Robyn Munro from Inspired Hair twirled up a storm of follicle fabulousness on our models while Meagan Rawlings perfected the palette of our model canvases.

The incredible gowns were once again supplied by Vinka Design- the absolute best in bridal couture. The suits were sourced from Munns (Lavinia at Botany Munns is your go-to girl for all things suits!) while the bridesmaid attire was sourced from Alannah Hill in Newmarket - garments, we're STILL getting compliments on from those involved.

We sourced the chairs from The Great Hiring Co, the gold cutlery and festoon lights from The Pretty Prop Shop, those incredible dinner plates and angular champagne flutes from The Studio of Tableware and the rest we sourced or created ourselves.

Check out the behind the scenes pics below as well as our fabulous behind the scenes video by Aidan Rogers Videography!

Behind the Scenes: Country Rustic Shoot

To commemmorate our expansion into Australia, we jetted off to Sydney to shoot an advertorial styled shoot using all local vendors and models (except Vinka Design, whose gowns we shipped over).

It was up (dark) and early on the morning of our shoot to ensure we were set up and ready to go before 7:30am.  Gledswood was hosting a wedding the same day so we needed to set up, shoot and be out of there before 9am without a trace!

Greeting our hair, makeup and models was done by torchlight, as was the bulk of the set up so it was pretty satisfying to see the sun come up and everything actually looking correct for having been assembled in the dark.

Gledswood is a beautiful venue and really had so many wonderful areas to shoot - we wish we had longer to shoot more of the fantastic grounds but we managed to cover the bulk of the venue.

Gledswood and the Sydney Riding School share the same grounds and so we were lucky to be able to borrow a horse, Winston, for to really complement our Country Rustic theme.

Behind the Scenes: Lauren & Bart

Just a behind the scenes peep of us setting up for Lauren & Bart's wedding at Mantells on the Water in Auckland (Westhaven Marina).

When we style a wedding, we create a design with our bridal couple that perfectly encapsulates their vision. The next step is sourcing the vendors and elements to make it happen and then liaising with those vendors to bring our design to life.

On the day, you'll find Harlow Garland on site, early, triple checking details, setting up props and other elements, directing every vendor to ensure that the design is followed to the letter to make sure our clients will be overwhelmingly happy when they enter the venue and see everything as they dreamed and as we've promised.

We make sure every bride is comfortable, relaxed (and relieved!) and above all, ecstatically happy with the results.
