When considering an overseas honeymoon (or even a destination wedding), the venue selection can be rather harrowing with an entire world to consider. As part of our #honeymoonhumpday series, we're going to be bringing you a variety of venue profiles, honeymoon styles and tips every Wednesday to help you narrow your options down to somewhere truly amazing.
Today's venue is Blanket Bay Luxury Lodge right here in New Zealand.
On the fringe of Lake Wakatipu lies this grand alpine-style lodge, a sanctuary of comfort among the bush-clad locale and the grand vista of Mount Earnslaw .
The lodge itself houses a Great Room filled with antique furniture, thirty-foot high bridge beam ceilings and a crackling fireplace with several smaller areas for your entertainment, like The Den where you can indulge in pre-dinner cocktails and The Games Room for you to while away your day.
Take a dip in the spa as you gaze over Lake Wakatipu and the Humboldt Mountains or workout in the Lodge gymnasium before taking a steam in the Lodge’s dedicated steam rooms.
The Outdoor Terrace is the perfect setting for dinner under the stars or the Wine Cave offers a more intimate occasion with its distressed timber doors and schist stone lining.
In the morning, take your breakfast in the Dining Room alongside the stone fireplace with views over the water.
The lodge offers a variety of accommodation options however since this is your honeymoon, we think one of the self-contained chalets will suit best. Built to reflect New Zealand’s colonial architecture in complement to the main lodge, the chalets are made from schist stone and old steamer wharf timber beams. Each of the four Chalet suites is equipped with complimentary Wi-Fi and super king-size beds and are just a stone’s throw from the main lodge. Each has its own stone fireplace and private courtyard as well as separate steam showers and bath tubs.
If you plan on venturing out of your private chalet, the area has a plethora of activities to suit your personal taste:
Take a scenic helicopter ride over Milford Sound or take in the alpine landscape with Glenorchy Air.
With the Routeburn and Greenstone Tracks nearby, a hike is definitely on the cards and with the famous Milford Track so close by, Blanket Bay makes the perfect recovery option.
If you’d like to see the country but the idea of doing it on foot doesn’t appeal, Horse Riding and mountain biking are easily arranged by the front office team.
If you’re honeymooning in winter, after you’ve gotten used to the incredible snow-covered vista of Blanket Bay, why not opt for some Heli-skiing mere minutes from the Lodge and offering some of the finest powder snow in the world.
Fishing or Heli-Fishing are available and the Blanket Bay professional guides can take you to untouched rivers offering some of the best fly-fishing in the world.
Whatever your taste, whatever your couple style, Blanket Bay Lodge has the amenities, activities and luxurious comfort to make your honeymoon an idyllic retreat.
