Creating your guest list can often be very daunting task, having to know who you should invite and who to not invite. While you may want to invite everyone you know to your wedding, the size of your guest list will largely affect many aspects of your wedding including your budget and venue options, so limiting your guest list to a certain number is often a must. To make this process a little less difficult, we have put together our top tips to help you create your ultimate wedding guest list.
Firstly, we recommend you and your partner both sit down and agree on an estimate number of people you want to invite while keeping your budget in mind. From here it is a good idea to make a list of all the definite people you will be inviting. This could include your immediate family members and closest friends.
Sometimes the parents of the couple feel as if they should have a say in who should be invited to the wedding – especially if they are helping with the expenses. If this is your situation, we suggest allocating each set of parents with the same number of people that they can choose to be invited to the wedding. Inform your parents of this early on to ensure you are clear and to avoid any disagreements or confusion.
When couples are creating their guest list many get confused with whether or not they should allow their single friends and family to bring a guest with them. Plus ones will largely affect your final guest list number and in the end is entirely up to you and your partner. Although, we suggest that it is always best to invite someone’s significant other – even if you have not met them.
Similar to including plus ones, whether or not you want to have children at your wedding is entirely up to you. Many couples decide that they want no young children to attend their wedding, if this is the case for you, all you need to do is ensure that you address your invitations to the parents only. You can also have your bridal party and parents inform the guests by word of mouth that the wedding is adults only.
If you come to discover that you have added too many people to your guest list, you may want to make a few cuts and take some people off your list. When trying to decide on who to take off your list we recommend to keep in mind the people who support you and your relationship the most and the ones who you believe will stay in your and your partners life throughout the years to come.
